Professional Indemnity INSURANCE
Professional indemnity (PI) insurance is required for all Examiners that are approved by the SCMS to undertake survey work.
The SCMS has a duty to check that such insurance is in place. Examiners are entitled to arrange this insurance with any broker that they choose.
Please be aware that although many firms offer PI insurance they do not always specifically cover you for the survey work that you will undertake as an Examiner. Check the cover carefully and confirm the exact nature of your work with the insurer/broker.
Companies detailed below are known to offer cover for the work of marine surveyors/examiners.
ITIC Insurance
ITIC is the leading provider of professional indemnity insurance in the marine sector. They insure over 500 companies who carry out marine surveying activities. As a mutual insurer they are owned by their membership. ITIC returns their profits to the membership. They do this as a credit for members who renew.
