The SCMS is a not-for-profit organisation. We aim to provide value for money with all our services. Any profit that is made is reinvested back into the organisation to ensure that we maintain the infrastructure, training and staff to support and improve our quality services. The SCMS strive to keep profits down to guarantee that our customers receive excellence at the lowest cost.
Efficiency
At SCMS we have our own bespoke and industry-admired database with electronically stored paperwork files. The database is coded and updated by our own internal team. This allows us to quickly adapt and keep up with the changing requirements of the MCA. The database supports rapid and efficient record keeping allowing tight turnaround of certificates. Vessels in turn remain coded for the maximum amount of time. Our survey forecasts sent to you with annual renewals also provide an instant overview of the vessel’s cycle. These indicate timeframes for statutory inspections and supports you in scheduling surveys when most convenient for the vessel, dependent on its operations.
SCMS service timelines are published on our website and we pride ourselves on maintaining those; documents are returned swiftly and, if additional information is required, this is stated with clarity and direction.
Transparency
SCMS administration fees are listed on our website – there are no hidden costs added at a later date. The survey fee is agreed by you directly with an SCMS approved Code surveyor. The SCMS do not claim a percentage of this fee.
The vessel survey forecast and survey reminders sent out by the SCMS are based on the full MCA code survey windows. We do not charge an extra fee for surveys conducted in the additional 3 months past the annual anniversary date. Equally, if you have bought a vessel that has not been coded for a while, no charge is levied for retrieving archived records. Fees stated on our webpage are what you will be charged.
